Eyeglass Recycling Center

Our Eyeglass Recycling Center is one of only 19 LCI Certified Recycling Centers in the world. Over 800,000 pairs of glasses are processed annually at the Center, with over 450,000 pairs being sent to 49 different developing countries.  Eyeglasses received at the eyeglass facility at Lions Camp are sorted, cleaned, categorized, bagged, and boxed in preparation for shipment to developing countries.

People in developing countries have been known to walk miles and miles to get the free eyeglasses.  Qualified personnel fit eyeglasses to their needs as nearly as possible.

There are millions of people in the world today who need eyeglasses to see clearly.  Globally, one child in four cannot see well enough to learn to read without glasses.  By age 40, 90% of adults experience a decrease in the ability to read print and need eyeglasses.  Many developing countries lack the resources to manufacture quality lenses.  The cost of imported eyeglasses is far beyond the means of the average citizen.  Millions will fail to reach their economic, educational, and social potential without access to quality glasses.

Throughout the years, Lions have collected millions of pairs of eyeglasses which have improved the quality of sight to so many people, including:

  • A woman from Mexico who was able to resume sewing for her family.
  • A 60-year-old woman from India who was able to see her grandson for the first time.
  • A man from Zambia who resumed his job as a leather worker after two years of unemployment.

How can you help?

Eyeglass collection containers can be obtained from the WLF office, free of charge.

Anyone can contribute to the Eyeglass Project.  Just drop your used eyeglasses in a Lions collection box or give them to a Lions member.   They can also be sent to:
